Once Again, We Return

You know, it just now occurred to me that our Wonderful Wizard of Oz illustrated playing cards are the first really traditional Oz project we've done. Dorothy is a modern retelling of the tale as action science fantasy. The Shadow of Oz sourced all of its imagery in the books, but it's still trying to map that onto occult symbols of the unconscious. I mean, it's a Tarot deck. This is the first time we're making a project out of pure Baum straight from the original book, without any twists or embellishments.

Well, that's not true.

There's been 115 years of the Wizard Oz in our culture. That means it has influenced all of us in a way that just wasn't possible for Baum, Denslow, and their audience. We have expectations and understandings created by living with a century of Oz adaptations, references, imitations, and rebirths. Oz has resonated through us. When we approach Oz creatively now, the overlapping frequencies of the powerful original and our contemporary Oz-colored vision generate unexpected patterns.

You can't ever go home again, not really. Because you're not the same person, and you change the place once you get there.

Another fun thing we've been doing is editing some silk purses out of the sow's ear of a video shoot we... shot. These little ditties go up when we reach certain Kickstarter milestones. Help spread the word so we can run out of footage sooner and move onto more sensible incentives.

Oh, there's just one more thing... if you enjoy listening to podcasts that aren't full of drunken people merrily descending the circles of hell, check out our Anna's appearance on The Legal Geeks! They talk about comics, comic book shops, superhero media, legal matters, and, yeah, our Bibliodeck project. DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING.
