After Chandler

Down these broken roads a girl must go who is not herself broken, who is neither foolish nor cowardly. She is the hero; she is all. She must be a total girl and a Kansas girl and yet a strange girl. She must be, in keeping with this pastiche, a girl of power, by nature, by destiny, without knowing it, and certainly without giving you the satisfaction even if she does. She must be the best girl in her land and a good enough girl for any land.
